Paper Relief private preview · public release in preparation · local-first

Lightroom Classic paper-relief preview and local rendering companion

Emulyn Tactile Print Lab

Pair a photograph with a captured paper image in Lightroom Classic, preview neutral paper relief across the whole composition, adjust exact strength, and create a new rendered TIFF derivative while the original RAW files remain unchanged.

Who it is for

Fine-art, editorial, portrait, commercial, and experimental photographers who want organic paper character without rebuilding the same two-image composite in Photoshop for every photograph.

The workaround it improves

Exporting two files to Photoshop, rebuilding a paper overlay by hand, guessing opacity without a Lightroom-centered preview, and losing a repeatable recipe between photographs.

Paper Relief · working private preview

See the paper before you make the derivative.

The exact private build opens a compact floating palette inside Lightroom Classic. It shows the complete composition, not a cropped slice, rerenders when the exact strength changes, and has produced one host-validated 4096 by 3072, 16-bit ProPhoto RGB TIFF derivative.

  • Captured paper photograph—not the host’s built-in grain control
  • Exact 0–100 strength slider and numeric field
  • Cover or contain paper fit, role swap, and original/composite comparison
  • Broad paper color and tone neutralized into local relief
  • Progressive highlight protection and a restrained deep-shadow guard
  • Original RAW files remain unchanged; the combined result is a new rendered derivative

Exact product contract

Inputs, outputs, reads, and writes

Every Emulyn product keeps its own boundary.

Supported inputs

  • Exactly two explicitly selected, locally available still photographs in Lightroom Classic
  • The active photograph as the base and the second photograph as captured paper, with role swap available
  • Lightroom-rendered 16-bit ProPhoto RGB Develop states for the bounded private preview

Produced outputs

  • Current verified output: a whole-image 900-pixel live preview inside a Lightroom floating palette
  • Current controls: exact 0–100 paper strength, cover or contain fit, role swap, and original/composite comparison
  • Exact private host-validated final path: one new non-overwriting 4096 by 3072, 16-bit RGB TIFF with an embedded ProPhoto RGB profile, plus bounded audit, request, result, and receipt records

What it reads

  • Only the two photographs deliberately selected in Lightroom Classic through documented SDK surfaces
  • Lightroom-rendered temporary previews and the selected Paper Relief controls

What it writes or changes

  • Temporary private preview TIFF, JSON, and display-PNG files that are removed when the palette closes without export
  • After separate final-output approvals, the exact private host run created a new unique operation directory containing a non-overwriting TIFF derivative and bounded audit, request, result, and receipt records
  • Original RAW remains unchanged
  • No catalog import, stack, metadata edit, or silent source-file modification

Local, catalog, file, and network behavior

Nothing important stays implied.

Catalog read
The private preview reads only the exact two-photo selection and documented photo metadata through the Lightroom Classic SDK; the helper never opens a catalog database.
Catalog write
The current Paper Relief preview contains no catalog write, import, stacking, plug-in metadata, or Develop-setting mutation surface.
Direct .lrcat access
Never
File creation
Preview files are temporary and exactly scoped. The exact 0.4.3.6 host run created one new unique operation directory and non-overwriting 4096 by 3072 TIFF derivative after two explicit approvals; existing-directory and result-path collisions failed closed. The path is not customer-authorized.
Network
No originals, previews, filenames, paths, client data, or image pixels are uploaded by default.
Privacy
Photographs and provenance remain local unless the photographer deliberately moves or shares outputs.
Exceptions and ambiguity
Anything other than exactly two available still photographs remains blocked rather than guessed. Create Final stays disabled while a requested preview rerender is stale; live selection or Develop-change invalidation still needs its dedicated adverse host row.
Recovery
The exact 0.4.3.6 host rows passed close-without-export cleanup, cancellation before and after the audit boundary, existing-directory and result-path collision blocking, and remove/re-add behavior without changing the retained final TIFF. Clean-machine and customer-runtime recovery remain release gates.

What it checks, creates, or changes

  • Captured-paper Paper Relief rather than a generic Lightroom grain adjustment
  • Whole-image live preview inside Lightroom Classic
  • Exact 0–100 strength slider and numeric field
  • Cover or contain fit, role swap, and original/composite comparison
  • Progressive highlight protection and a restrained deep-shadow guard
  • Host-validated non-overwriting 4096 by 3072, 16-bit ProPhoto RGB rendered TIFF derivative with bounded operation records

What it deliberately does not do

  • Modify the original RAW
  • Inject pixels into Lightroom's main Develop canvas or add a custom Develop panel
  • Import, stack, or write Lightroom catalog metadata in the current preview
  • Upload photographs or require an Emulyn account
  • Claim universal physical, visual, camera, host, or cross-architecture parity
  • Open or modify a .lrcat database directly

Exact compatibility

Tested rows only.

Compatibility policy
No public compatibility row is authorized yet.

Private engineering evidence does not become a public support claim until the exact product, host, OS, architecture, and release row pass review.

Known limitations

What still has to be true.

  • The exact 0.4.3.6 private package passed on one workstation using Lightroom Classic 15.5.1, macOS 26.6.2, Apple silicon, and one explicitly selected two-owner-RAW pair; that is not broad customer compatibility.
  • Customer portability, clean-machine runtime, the customer runtime and installer, signing, notarization, public download, merchant delivery, and sale authorization have not passed.
  • Dedicated live selection or Develop-change invalidation and helper-failure host rows were not run, and visual-quality acceptance is not recorded by the exact package receipt.
  • The current host-verified feature is Paper Relief. The wider twelve-treatment Tactile roadmap, batch workflow, material library, and production recipe system are not all present in this Lightroom preview.
  • The Pro feature set does not exist and its price is disabled.

Installation

The exact private 0.4.3.6 package loaded, was removed, and was re-added without diagnostics on one existing development workstation. Customer portability, a clean-machine runtime, a customer installer, and public download remain unproven and unauthorized.

Update policy

Proposed one-time major-version license with 12 months of maintenance; legal review remains required.

Policy language remains subject to legal review before public activation.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers before checkout.

Is Tactile Print Lab a generic texture overlay pack?

No. The host-verified Paper Relief preview uses a second captured-paper photograph, neutralizes its broad color and tone, derives local paper relief, and applies it with highlight and deep-shadow protection.

Can I see and adjust the paper effect before export?

Yes in the private owner build. A whole-image Lightroom floating preview provides an exact 0–100 strength control, fit options, role swap, and original/composite comparison before any final-output action.

Is the product ready for public download?

Not yet. The exact private 0.4.3.6 package produced a host-validated final rendered TIFF derivative, while customer portability, clean-machine installation, signing or notarization, support, merchant delivery, and release authority remain open.

Support and release

Private beta means exactly that.
